National Chiayi University has been founded for over a century, with more than 130,000 alumni at home and abroad, and several alumni associations up and running in different regions. On Feb. 8th, NCYU President Chyung Ay, accompanied by Chu Chi-Shih, Vice President and Director of the Alumni Center, Vice President Huang Guang-liang, among others, attended the NCYU Vietnam Alumni Association Founding Conference and inauguration ceremony of the first President of Vietnam Alumni Association in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The delegation of eleven representatives from the university filled the occasion with warmth and geniality. As the recent outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus still shows no sign of slowdown, the world suffers from shortages of protective medical supplies. Before returning to Taiwan, President Ay received a donation of nearly 4,000 face masks jointly raised by the Vietnamese alumni and Taiwanese business people, who hoped to contribute to infection control of their alma mater. President Ay expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the alumni who had managed to raise necessary supplies for infection control and assist with customs clearance despite difficulties in such a short period of time.

According to NCYU President Chyung Ay, thanks to dedicated work by the National Alumni Association, Distinguished Alumni Association and regional alumni associations nationwide, the enthusiastic networking among regional alumni associations has been serving as a strong backup for NCYU. As 2019 marked the the centennial anniversary of NCYU, the Alumni Center was established to facilitate networking and service referrals among alumni. The Vietnam Alumni Association was set up with profound anticipation and efforts among the university and alumni. He extended special thanks to Lee Tien-chi, Council Member of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, Republic of China, Shi Chuan-Bao, Chairman of Lam Dong Branch of the Council of Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce in Vietnam, Wu Ming-Ying, General Director of Sheng Bang Metal Co., Ltd., Vietnam, and many other alumni. All these people have contributed to the founding of the NCYU Vietnam Alumni Association.

The newly-elected President of the NCYU Vietnam Alumni Association, Lee Tien-chi indicated that the Alumni Association was founded to promote solidarity among the Vietnamese alumni. In the future, they will support each other and work with the Office of International Affairs and the Alumni Center of their alma mater to proactively assist overseas Chinese in Vietnam or Vietnamese students in pursuing studies at NCYU. Moreover, he hoped to facilitate academic-industrial cooperation with NCYU, so that the alumni and their alma mater could work towards co-prosperity and excellence through synergy.

Vice President Chu Chi-Shih mentioned that one of the goals of attending the founding conference of the Vietnam Alumni Association in Vietnam was to build a bridge for academic and industrial collaboration among NCYU, Nong Lam University (Ho Chi Minh City), University of Dalat and Bao Loc College of Technology and Economic, with devoted help from the Vietnamese alumni. In the days to come, all parties are expected to initiate numerous projects on, for example, academic-industrial collaboration, cross-region cooperation, and international academic exchange. The Alumni Center and the Vietnam Alumni Association will act as a seamless hub for the network.
