To adapt to the international trend of globalization, National Chiayi University is devoted to creating a cross-border learning environment. Hosted by President Chiou Yi-Yuan, an unveiling ceremony for “International Networking Academy” kicked off at noon of Nov. 3rd on the Lantan campus, attended by a number of honored guests including Rose Kuo-Chen Chen, Deputy Counsellor of the International and Cross Strait Education, Ministry of Education, Shen Zhi-Yan, Deputy Director of the Southwestern Taiwan Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hsu Mien-Sheng, former ROC Ambassador to Haiti, and Deng Yu-Zhe and Zhang Liang-Tong, respectively Chairman of the Chiayi City Service Station and Executive Officer of the Chia Yi County Service Station, National Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior. In correspondence with the event, the Overseas Chinese and International Students Division organized an international food and cultural event, giving it a perfect exotic ambience.

In his address, President Chiou said NCYU has been welcoming international students and encouraging Taiwanese students to engage in exchange programs to expand their view of the world. In 2013, they established the Overseas Chinese and International Students Division, and has been actively seeking subsidies from the Ministry of Education and funding from alumnus to establish the International Networking Academy. The number of international students has grown from 384 in 2013 to 492 today, representing an increase of more than a hundred. Likewise, the number of Taiwanese students joining exchange programs at sister schools has multiplied. The International Cultural Festival today was participated by students from all over the world, all gathering together to enjoy delectable foreign foods, experience cultures around the world, share their experience of living in different countries, and, most important of all, show their respect and understanding towards diverse mores and ethos.

The International Networking Academy boasts small seminar rooms, research rooms for scholars, lecture theaters, and overseas students’ clubs offices, among others, thus offering more space available to international scholars and overseas students. “International Culture and Etiquette and Overseas Experience Sharing Session” was organized at the conference hall of the Academy Today at 10:30 a.m. Hsu Mien-Sheng, former Ambassador to Haiti, was specially invited to present a keynote speech on “International Culture and Etiquette.” The sharing session also featured students sharing their experience in joining internship exchange programs at universities abroad.
