NCYU recruits malaysian students NCYU Recruits Malaysian Students to Enhance Academic Exchange with Southeast Asia

National Chiayi University is dedicated to enhancing campus internationalization and encouraging outstanding foreign students to pursue degrees in NCYU. This year, an NCYU team led by Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs Li Min-Jen joined the Malaysia-Taiwan Higher Education Expo 2017 at Putra World Trade Centre in Colombo from July 7th to July 8th and at Kluang Tiong Hwa Restaurant, Taiwan City, Yong Peng from July 10th to 11th. The education expo was organized by University Entrance Committee For Overseas Chinese Students. By participating in the expo, NCYU hoped to introduce Malaysian students to its educational goals and philosophy. Led by NCYU President Chiou Yi-Yuan, an academic exchange delegation attended the opening ceremony to help promote recruitment among Malaysian students.

According to President Chiou, Malaysian Chinese students have been showing remarkable learning outcomes and are one of their primary targets of recruitment. There are around 203 Malaysian students at NCYU, who account for 40% of their total international students, making Malaysia the largest source country for international students to NCYU. The university placed 29th in “the 2017 Taiwan University ranking,” a statistical report by the local media Global Views Monthly issued on July 4th. The timely report also allowed the participating teachers, students and parents to know more about the prominent educational objectives and learning resources of NCYU.

The NCYU delegation consisted of Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs Li Min-Jen, Department of Special Education Chairwoman Lin Yu-Hsia, Department of Bio-industry and Agribusiness Administration Prof. Lu Yung-Hsiang, and Department of Horticultural Science Lecturer Guo Wei-Ru. They talked to the Malaysian students and parents about the university’s curriculum, physical facilities, etc., and answered all sorts of questions posed by the students face-to-face at the venue.

According to NCYU, the most frequently inquired departments on the first day of the expo included the Department of Guidance and Counseling, Teachers College; Department of Foreign Languages, Department of Visual Arts, College of Humanities and Arts; Department of Marketing and Tourism Management, College of Management; Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture; Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, College of Science and Engineering; Department of Food Science, College of Life Sciences; and Department of Veterinary Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine.

NCYU just signed an exchange student agreement with Malaysian New Era University College several days ago. At the exhibition expo, there were some students from the college asking for information regarding the exchange program, which was testament to the substantiality of the new academic policy to facilitate academic exchange with Southeast Asia, which places emphasize on international exchange, educational resource sharing, and mutual benefits.
