NCYU Enterprise Incubation Center team Congrats! NCYU Enterprise Incubation Center Obtains Highest Subsidy from Central Government among Universities in Taiwan

Enterprise Incubation Center, Office for Academia-Industry Collaboration and Continuing Education, National Chiayi University, gained a subsidy of NT$5.03 million with the innovative concept of creating “Chiayi Local Innovation Galaxy.” The amount of the subsidy marked the highest among the subsidies for over 80 universities in Taiwan, and also highest the Center has ever received throughout the years. NCYU Enterprise Incubation Center underwent a transformation in 2017, and has since taken the initiative to mobilize local supportive resources. By integrating resources from the industries, government and academic organizations, it allows NCYU to become a base of innovation and entrepreneurship for young students.

According to Chen Cheng-Nan, Director of the Office for Academia-Industry Collaboration and Continuing Education, the establishment of the “Chiayi Local Innovation Galaxy” serves as a beginning of further development. Resources within the Galaxy will be fully utilized and distributed to the outside world in a gradual process. Starting from NCYU Enterprise Incubation Center (core), they will be extended to Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Joint Services Center, Executive Yuan, the county and city governments, G9 Creative Park (key partners), and then to key enterprises and highlighted enterprises (planetary partners). The supportive energies and resources will ultimately be distributed to local enterprises and startup teams (satellite partners) to foster development and co-prosperity in the region, and enhance Taiwan’s economic strength.

Chen Cheng-Nan stressed that the remarkable achievement should be attributed to the NCYU teachers and students’ boundless commitment to research and development, as well as support from the partner units and client companies. Without their commitment and support, the subsidies the Center has been receiving since its founding from the central government would not have grown from NT$1.5 million to NT$5.03 million. The number of small and medium enterprises that have benefited from the Center’s guidance has risen from 24 to 47, providing an output value of over NT$0.5 billion. The number of client enterprises that have obtain government subsidies with help from the Center has also grown three times. They have also offered guidance to several highlighted enterprises and student entrepreneurial teams, including JiaYi Biotechnology Inc., Rongting Investment Co., Ltd., Ciao Sole Corporation Technology Co., Ltd., Yu Cheng Food Co., Ltd., Huashin Industrial Co., Ltd. (Plant 2) (Shell-Ginger Story House), Mindy Bio Co., Ltd., and Liu Tian Int’l Co., Ltd. as well as outstanding enterprises founded by NCYU students such as Tipsy Farm, 729 Eco Studio and Comma Workshop.

The NCYU Enterprise Incubation Center has enjoyed an increase in quantity and quality in terms of its entrepreneurship guidance each year since its establishment in 2002. While offering guidance with a focus on industries with local characteristics such as biotechnology and precision agriculture, it takes advantage of the university’s research and development results and transforms them into intellectual properties for technology transfer. By creating a collaboration platform that bridges the gap among the academic research and industry, the university hopes to fulfill its social responsibility to the local communities.
