from left:President Barry Huang, President Chiou Yi-Yuan, Dr. THUN Vathana Joint contracting Tripartite team NCYU Signs Agricultural Resources Cooperation Memorandum with a Cambodian College as Part of Academic-Industrial Cooperation
National Chiayi University President Chiou Yi-Yuan signed an academic exchange memorandum and a memorandum on academic-industrial cooperation with Dr. THUN Vathana, President of Prek Leap National College of Agriculture, Cambodia, and Barry Huang, President of Wel-Hunt Materials Enterprise Co. Ltd., among others, on the Lantan campus on the morning of Oct. 7th. By means of tripartite partnership, they hoped to integrate the agricultural resources of both schools and the rich international industrial cooperation experience of Wel-Hunt Materials, as part of the effort to facilitate international academic-industrial cooperation.

In his address, President Chiou Yi-Yuan mentioned a delegation of 6 NCYU teachers with expertise in such areas as food, landscape, and science and technology was dispatched this August to visit Cambodia Prek Leap National College of Agriculture and Wel-Hunt Materials. During the visit, the three parties reached a consensus on establishing an agricultural cooperation platform in terms of academic-industrial cooperation and academic exchange. A delegation from Prek Leap National College of Agriculture visited NYCU, during which President THUN Vathana signed an academic exchange memorandum with the university. According to the memorandum, both parties will collaborate in teacher-student exchange (a quota of 2 exchange students for each semester), curriculum planning, academic and research exchanges of interest for both sides, organizing symposiums and lectures, and offering academic information and literature. The cooperation program aims to provide students on both sides with opportunities to engage in overseas internship, continuing learning, and teachers, overseas study visit.

President Barry Huang indicated that one of the plantations of Wel-Hunt Materials has been founded in Cambodia for more than a decade. Though still under development, Cambodia is a country with great potential. By working with NCYU, which boasts a long history in agricultural development and a wealth of teachers, based on the tripartite academic-industrial cooperation, he believed there would be effective ways to develop cooperation projects and diverse resources, with an ultimate goal of supporting the UN initiative to alleviate global poverty.
