NCYU first-level administrative and academic heads convened for an emergency meeting. NCYU Dean of Student Affairs Huang Tsai-Wei gave an update on the coronavirus outbreak. NCYU Steps up Measures Against New Coronavirus as School is About to Start
There is a certain percentage of foreign students from, for example, mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau in the colleges and universities nationwide. As school is about to begin, Huang Guang-liang, Vice President of National Chiayi University, called an emergency meeting for infection control related to a novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China, on Jan. 30th at 9 am. First-level administrative and academic heads of the university attended the meeting to mull response and supporting measures, with a view to protecting the spread of the virus on the campus and control infection before school starts.

Amid the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV, also known as Wuhan coronavirus), the Central Epidemic Command Center decided to declare a Level 2 endemic on Jan. 23rd. Nine cases of the new coronavirus were confirmed in Taiwan as of Jan. 31st. NCYU passed the Campus Pandemic Emergency Response Plan on Jan. 15th. The emergency response team has coordinated efforts to draw up infection control measures since Jan. 30th. There are no cases reported on campus of NCYU as of today (Jan. 31st). For students about to return to school from mainland China, or the faculty, staff members and students coming back from Hubei Province, where Wuhan is located, each of them will stay in the single-room at Lantan Campus Hostel. The hostel will offer humanitarian, centralized care services, complete with meals and disinfection practices.

The NCYU Office of Student Affairs will procure (ear) thermometer and antiseptic alcohol in a centralized manner, and assist different units in reinforcing control measures. The office will also compose the Coronavirus Q & A at a Glance to promote infection control among the faculty, staff members and students. In conjunction with the advice of the Ministry of Education regarding measures to implement the flexible study schedule, the Office of Academic Affairs is currently planning flexible study programs as school will officially start from Feb. 17th. For students who cannot return to school as scheduled due to infection control reasons, registration dates may vary in accordance with individual circumstances and be postponed up to six weeks (before Mar. 27th, 2020). The Office of International Affairs will also spare no effort to assist foreign students in coming back to school in correspondence with measures stipulated by the government.

NCYU President Chyung Ay indicated that joint efforts from different units are required for effective infection control. He hoped that all the faculty, staff members and students can work together, coordinate related efforts, create a supportive network to fully implement infection control practices, and establish an effective infection control platform. According to announcement from the Central Epidemic Command Center on Jan. 29th, those who recently come back from mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macao should conduct self-health management for 14 days, and must report to the university. The NCYU Pandemic Emergency Response Team will continue to convene to discuss issues in response to the coronavirus threat, and update the precautions and necessary measures. Please keep close attention to our latest announcement if you have registered in public gatherings. For information on registration and curriculum, please contact +886-5-271-7020~7022. You may also contact the Office of Student Affairs at +886-5-271-7310.

As a gentle reminder, all the faculty, staff members and students of NCYU should frequently wash hands with soap, wear surgical mask, and avoid closed and unventilated places. If showing symptoms including fever, cough, diarrhea, body aches and discomfort were shown, you must contact the Sanitation and Health Service Division, Office of Student Affairs at +886-5-271-7069 or +886-5-271-7070 (Office hour: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.), or the 24-hour Campus Safety Hotline at +886-5-271-7373.
