I-Mei Foods CEO Luis Ko and NCYU President Chyung Ay discussed on the project of cooperative work experience education and academic-industrial cooperation. NCYU and I-Mei Sign a MOU to Promote Domestic Food Industry
Luis Ko, CEO of I-Mei Foods Co., Ltd., led a team of seven to visit NCYU and sign a memorandum on academic-industrial cooperation on July 30th. The team included Director Wang Kun-Pei, Chief Internal Auditor Wang Ning-Min, Director Wu Qing-Xiong, Manager Chen Kuei-Fen, Special Assistant Gao Yang-Xian, and Deputy Director Qiu Yu-Shan. The representatives from I-Mei Foods were warmly received at NCYU by President Chyung Ay, former President Chiou Yi-Yuan, Vice President Liu Rong-Yi, administrative supervisors, Department of Applied Chemistry Prof. Li Yu-Jang, Department of Biochemical Science and Technology Prof. Chen Rui-Xiang, and the Fragrant Plant Essential Oil Compound Research Team.

NCYU President Ay indicated that NCYU has been on collaborative terms with various divisions of I-Mei Foods for several years. The signing of the memorandum on cooperative work experience education and academic-industrial cooperation aimed to enhance mutual scientific and technological exchanges and personnel training to reduce the education-job mismatch. In the days to come, they hoped to form a cooperation team and apply for large-scale national projects through academic-industrial cooperation. The ultimate goal is to fulfill their social responsibility, and promote agricultural industrial and business development in Yunlin and Chiayi.

According to I-Mei Foods CEO Luis Ko, the company has been dedicated to production process control (ISO 22000/HACCP), food safety management, marketing and sales channels for a long time. Recently, they have turned their focus from food safety to development of foods related to pharmaceutical natural products, and have achieved remarkable results in natural product extraction. They have also been conducting research using animal experimentation, and are well-equipped with freeze-drying and supercritical extraction facilities. In their academic-industrial cooperation, they hoped to rely on the expertise of the NCYU research team in biotechnology and agriculture, and jointly develop healthy foods. They also hoped that their collaboration with NCYU, once successful, would help upgrade the food industry, and thus sales of agricultural products.

The signing ceremony took place on the Lantan campus of NCYU, featuring an academic-industrial exchange lasting nearly 40 minutes, during which discussions were carried out in a harmonious and friendly atmosphere. NCYU former President Chiou explained the reasons for the academic-industrial cooperation between NCYU and I-Mei. Prof. Li from the Department of Applied Chemistry introduced the research and plans as part of their academic-industrial collaboration. They also expressed the hope that the academic-industrial cooperation project, in correspondence with the Higher Education Enhancement Program, would help allow the NCYU teachers and students to gain a further understanding of the latest developments in the industry and carry out substantial cooperation with the spirit that their predecessors demonstrated when carrying out the Remote Area Hope Project.

I-Mei Foods CEO Ko warmly invited professors and managers of the academic and industrial cooperation program from NCYU to visit the Natural Product Extraction Factory in the I-Mei Foods Nankan Plant someday recently, so that both can be engaged in close and substantial cooperation in research and development of related products.
