　　The 44th edition of Annual Convention of Kiwanis Taiwan took place at the Taoyuan Arena on August 18th, 2018. During the convention, winners of the Kiwanis International Award of Ten Distinguished Agricultural Experts for 2018, in its 42nd edition, were announced. Among the winners was Prof. Chinsu Lin, Chairman of Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, National Chiayi University, who won the award for his “Remarkable Achievement in Establishing Precision Forestry Management System with Scientifically Innovative Technology.”
　
　　Prof. Chinsu Lin is dedicated to facilitating research and development of a cutting-edge technology for managing the forest ecosystem. He has achieved marvelous results in forest management and remote sensing technologies that are critical and globally innovative: forest growing adversity evaluation, forest stand productivity measuring model, stand structure dynamic development model, forest recreation area thinning strategy design and evaluation, and tree phenological characteristics automatic detection, among others. Over the years, he has published approximately 200 papers on prestigious academic journals and conference proceedings at home and abroad. Prof. Lin has served as an editor, deputy editor-in-chief and review committee member for international academic journals in such fields as agricultural information processing and forest science research. In addition to actively promoting international cooperation in agricultural technology, he has also invented various techniques of extracting forest and forest stand structure information, set up “a framework of precision forestry management,” and successfully solved problems that face forest ecosystem management in practice.

　　In February of 2018, Prof. Lin was recommended by NCYU Vice President Huang Guang-liang (then dean of the College of Agriculture) for the Kiwanis International Award of Ten Distinguished Agricultural Experts. A review and evaluation was conducted by the selection committee of Kiwanis Taiwan in April of the same year. Later in June, a further assessment and selection was made by agricultural experts from the industry, government and academia around the country. After fierce competition, he was singled out as one of the ten winners and was presented the award the Annual Convention of Kiwanis Taiwan in 2018. On August 18th, Hsu Kuo-yung, Minister of the Interior, attended the ceremony and delivered a congratulatory speech. Plaques, trophies, certificates of selection and memorabilia were handed to winners by Tuey-Chih Lee, Vice Chairman of the Agency of Science and Technology, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, Kiwanis Taiwan President Hsu Chang-Ching, and Luo Chang-Jian, Chairman of the Selection Committee for the Kiwanis International Award of Ten Distinguished Agricultural Experts.

　　The Taiwan Outstanding Agriculturalists Association indicated that Prof. Chinsu Lin was the first award-winning candidate for the expert award recommended by NCYU. They not only congratulated him on his outstanding achievement, but also the NCYU College of Agriculture and Department of Forestry and Natural Resources on the news.
