NCYU Arts Festival 2018 is about to be unveiled. An opening concert featuring a jazz quintet led by Rodney Whitaker, one of the most renowned jazz double bass players today, will kick off on the Minghsiung campus of National Chiayi University on Oct. 12th at 19:30. With the theme of “Fun Arts in Chiayi,” this year’s NCYU Arts Festival boasts vocal band and jazz performances, classical concerts and seminars. Interactions between performers and participants are also a highlight. Moreover, there will be vivid introductions to the music before each classical concert to allow the audience to enjoy the fun of participating in art activities.

The first performance with admission fees in the NCYU Arts Festival this year is scheduled at the Zuei-Suei Guan on the Lantan campus on Oct. 18th at 19:30. A concert will be brought to you by “O-Kai Singers,” a cappella vocal band composed of indigenous people in Taiwan. Founded in 2004, it won the first prize in the jazz category of the Modern A Capella Contest in Austria last year. For the arts festival, they are going to perform melodious English and Taiya Tribe songs, as well as time-tested classic songs such as Teresa Teng Suite and Olive Tree. It is a concert you will find hard-to-miss. The second performance with admission fees will take place at the International Conference Hall on the Sinmin campus, NCYU, on Oct. 26th at 19:30. Titled “A Hide and Seek of Musical Notes,” this marks the first concert for parents and kids arranged for the NCYU Arts Festival. The “Fantasy Woodwind Quintet” will perform Peter and the Wolf, a story and musical composition by Prokofiev, complete with an interesting storytelling. Visitors both young and young-at-heart are welcome to a feast of music.

The arts festival this year also offer spectacular events with no admission charge, including three concerts that are free but require tickets, and six performances with free admissions. It also features an outdoor concert, the first in its history, brought by the remarkable jazz band of NCYU led by Lawrence Nickolai Javier, a lecturer of the Music Department. They will perform classic and influential jazz music pieces on the beautiful campus. On Dec. 6th at 19:30, an “open-air jazz party” will be organized at the open-air amphitheater on the Lantan campus, where the audience can move their bodies to the music, enjoying the spectacular charm of jazz music to the full.

Please refer to the ticketing system of the National Theater Concert Hall for more information on the performances with admission fees at the NCYU Arts Festival 2018. Students are $20 off ticket price.
