A performance was given by 831, one of the hottest Taiwanese pop rock bands. NCYU Freshmen Concert: Crazy through the Night
Organized by the Student Association, National Chiayi University, “Craze! 2018-2019 NCYU Freshmen Concert” took place at the Zuei-Suei Guan on the Lantan campus of NCYU on Oct. 14th at 18:00. Featuring the hottest pop stars in Taiwan, it presented a feast of the senses to more than a thousand students. The performers filled the room with energy and beautiful melodic sounds, creating a fun and lively atmosphere.

The concert unveiled with one of the hottest Taiwanese pop rock bands, 831, also known as “The Last Day of Summer,” followed by an indie band with tons of vocal talent, “PA PUN BAND.” It climaxed with “EggPlantEgg,” winner of the 29th Golden Melody Awards for Best Taiwanese Album and Best New Artist. Spectacular performances were also given by singers including Jess Lee, a well-known Mandarin singer dubbed the “Iron Lung Queen” for her impressive vocal prowess; R-chord, styled as “Spotlight of Campus Concerts”; Evangeline, singer of the theme song “Unlimited Love” for an internet show called ‘Red Balloon’; Erika, a young “Watery” female vocalist. All the entertainers put on their best performances, taking the students all the way through a euphoric night.

Also noteworthy about the concert was a performance by “HJband,” composed of NCYU graduates. This marked the first time they came back as entertainers after graduation, making it all the more meaningful. Before forming “HJband” nearly two years ago, the members had been writing songs and playing music in their spare time after class, and giving performances at community-based events. In addition, they joined campus sharing sessions, and served as a guest at the opening press conference of the Wake Up Festival and at the concert before a marathon event. They were also invited as special guests to the media event of the Chiayi Arts Festival. All these bear witness to their popularity as a band, and suffice to say that they are role models for NCYU students.

According to Huang Tsai-Wei, Dean of Student Affairs, NCYU, this was the first time that the Student Association collaborated with the Rock Music Club, one of the university’s student clubs, in holding a large-scale event. While the Student Association is more experienced in event organization and administrative processes, the Rock Music Club, comprising a group of pop music fans from NCYU, are more updated on the pop culture. The cooperation made it possible to bring out a splendidly successful concert. He expressed his hope that more student clubs would put their potential on display and work together in making campus-based events more creative and diverse.
HJband, composed of NCYU graduates, sang at the concert. “EggPlantEgg,” winner of the 29th Golden Melody Awards for Best Taiwanese Album and Best New Artist, performed at the event. A performance was jointly given by R-chord, dubbed “Spotlight of Campus Concerts,” and Jess Lee.
