Admiral Pu Tze-chun, Military Strategy Advisor to the President (fifth from left), and NCYU President Chyung Ay (fifth from right) attended the unveiling ceremony. Ministry of National Defense Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Professional College Established at NCYU
An unveiling ceremony of “ROTC Professional College Jointly Established by Ministry of National Defense and National Chiayi University,” took place on the Linsen campus, National Chiayi University, on January 15th. It was attended by Admiral Pu Tze-chun, Military Strategy Advisor to the President, NCYU President Chyung Ay, Nanya Institute of Technology Chairperson Feng Shih Lo and President Ren-Der Jean, among other guests of honor. Together they unveiled the opening of the ROTC (Reserved Officers Training Corps) Professional College, hoping to cultivate remarkable talents for the country, and encourage patriotic young people to join the army.

The Ministry of National Defense and Nanya Institute of Technology collaborated with NCYU to establish the Ministry of National Defense ROTC Professional College. They chose the Linsen campus of NCYU to be an ideal spot to make it more convenient for ROTC students in central and southern Taiwan to receive training at somewhere nearby. The program enables ROTC students to receive training in their neighborhood, and focus more on learning, which helps enhance the training quality and student’s motivation for joining the training program. It also helps lay a solid foundation of an outstanding, professional army and national defense and security.

According to President Ay, there are currently four ROTC students at NCYU, including Ji Meng-Jun at the Department of Marketing and Tourism Management, Que Yun-Xuan and Yu Wei-Ze at the Department of Business Administration, and Chen Pei-Tang at the Department of Food Science. They passed the admission tests after registration, and has been receiving military education and training every Saturday and summer/winter vacation during the college years. All the ROTC students will receive full grants for tuition and fees each semester, reimbursement of the expenses for stationery and textbooks every semester, and monthly scholarships, among a variety of grants from the Ministry of National Defense. These are aimed to help the students relieve their financial burden while completing their bachelor’s degrees. They are also targeted to enhance the educational background for the military in reserve by allowing the students to prepare for their career when pursuing their college studies. The ROTC program provides the students with another set of choices for their life career .

The ROTC Professional College is established with a view to cultivating and training outstanding current students to become basic military officers in the future. All the ROTC students are between ages 18 and 26, and can complete their training in professional military and relevant fields during their college lives. To participate in the program, they need to pass the intelligence, physical fitness, physical fitness level, and oral tests. After graduating from the ROTC training, they can become a second lieutenant and enjoy a starting salary above average. The relevant courses will be opened at NCYU as long as there are 20 students recruited for each grade. They can receive a regular college education while enjoying a wide spectrum of grants and scholarships for, i.e., tuition and fees and cost-of-living allowances, from the Ministry of National Defense. In other words, they do not have to give up on learning what they are interested in to join the army. Students who study at universities in central and southern Taiwan are welcome to be enlisted and join the army.
