In Conjunction With the New Curriculum Standards, National Chiayi University Invited Neighboring Elementary, Junior/Senior High, and Vocational Schools to Form “An Strategic Alliance of Teacher Education Partner Schools”
National Chiayi University organized “A Teacher Workshop on Literacy-Oriented New Curriculum Standards and Teacher Education” on January 15th. At the workshop, a total of 35 elementary, junior high and senior high schools located near the Chiayi region were invited to form “An Strategic Alliance of Teacher Education Partner Schools” with the university. The neighboring schools invited included: eight senior high schools, e.g. Chiayi Senior High School, Chia-yi Girls’ High School, National Chiayi Industrial High School, National Chiayi Senior Commercial Vocational School, National Min-Shyong Senior School of Agricultural & Industry, National Singang Senior High School of Arts, Tung Shih High School and Yongqing High School; and eight junior high schools and 19 elementary schools. Under the witness of Teng Chin-Chuan, Director-General of the Department of Education, Chiayi County Government, and Lin Shu-Hua, Division Head of the School Affairs Section, Department of Education, Chiayi City Government, representatives from the schools signed an agreement on educational partnership.

According to Wu Chih-Yi, Chairperson of the Teacher Education Center, NCYU, the objective of forming an “partner schools strategic alliance” is to integrate educational resources of literacy-oriented new curriculum standards, expand academic cooperation, and enhance mutual benefits by effectively utilizing inter-university resources. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the integration and utilization of curriculums, teaching, studies and teacher training under the new curriculum standards for elementary and junior high schools, as well as cultivate remarkable young talents in the Chiayi region, so as to create a win-win situation for all. At the meeting, they signed an agreement on alliance and exchanged views on teacher training; two keynote speeches were delivered by Victor Fang, Dean of the College of Education, National Kaohsiung Normal University, and Lin Yung-Feng, Professor of the Graduate Institute of Education, National Chung Cheng University, on the topics of “The Last Mile for the New Curriculum Standards” and “Teaching and Curriculum Design Under the Literacy-Oriented New Curriculum Standards” respectively. All these aimed to help prepare the teachers for the upcoming challenges of the new curriculum standards, by promoting creative thinking and flipped teaching.

Apart from the forums keynote speeches on January 15th, “A Workshop on Teacher and Prospective teacher Empowerment Under the Literacy-Oriented New Curriculum Standards” was also planned by the NCYU Teacher Education Center. In the future, they will invite both the education departments of the Chiayi County and City governments, and current teachers of the elementary and junior high schools to take part in it. From February 22nd to 24th, “A Workshop on Curriculum Design and Creative Teaching Under the Literacy-Oriented New Curriculum Standards” will be organized at the university by the professional teacher team, entitled “Dream Big,” led by Tom Wang, a teacher from Nantou Shung Wen Junior High School. A total of 13 sessions will be offered to teachers in elementary, junior high, and special education schools as a platform to share teaching experiences, stimulate creativity and passion for teaching, and facilitate learning by teaching. Teachers from the partner schools are invited to join the grand event and share their ideas.
