News--Welcome to National Chiayi University

　　"Donation Ceremony of Former Vice President Vincent Siew's Artifacts" took place at the Library on the Lantan campus, National Chiayi University on the morning of Dec. 29th. On behalf of the university, NCYU President Chyung Ay signed a contract on donation of artifacts with Former Vice President Vincent Siew. Former Vice President Siew donated more than a thousand cherished artifacts free of charge to "Vincent Siew's Museum," located on the 5th floor of the Library on the Lantan campus, NCYU. All the artifacts are lifetime collection of Vice President Siew ranging from degree certificates, election certificates, documents and records, medals, to calligraphy and paintings. They not only serve cultural and artistic functions, but academic purposes as well. Those interested in related research topics may use them for teaching or reference.

　The donation ceremony was witnessed by guests of honor and faculty and staff of NCYU, including Prof. Han-Chien Lin, slated to take over as the 8th President of NCYU in February of 2022; Siew's wife Mrs. Susan Chu and two of their daughters; Chen Kuang-hsing, Director of the General Affairs Department, and Jiabo Rao, Director of the Land Administration Department, Chiayi City Government; Zhan Huo-Sheng, Chairman of the Cross-Straits Common Market Foundation; Lin Jian-Zhi, Former National Policy Advisor to the President; and Wang Lin-hui, Head of the Office of Former Vice President Siew.

　Born and bred in Chiayi, Former Vice President Vincent Siew is renowned for his lifelong, enormous contributions to Taiwan's politics and economy. During his term as Premiere, or President of the Executive Yuan, out of his love and sense of duty for his hometown, Siew had supported the merging of National Chiayi Institute of Technology and Chiayi Junior Teachers College into NCYU in 2000. In 2004, he received an honorary doctorate degree from NCYU. In 2006, Former NCYU President Li Ming-Jen began planning to set up a room dedicated to keeping the cultural artifacts of Former Vice President Siew. In November of the same year, the "Premiere Vincent Siew's Archives" was established in the newly built Library and Information Building of NCYU. In November of 2012, the "Vincent Siew's Museum" was unveiled during the term of Former NCYU President Chiou Yi-Yuan.

　　Former Vice President Siew mentioned that "Chiayi" is his hometown and NCYU, the highest educational institution in Chiayi City, has been making its mark in recent years. He is grateful to NCYU for their attentive care in keeping these artifacts, which, with a total number of more than 1,000, are significant historical materials related to his involvement in the economic and trade development of Taiwan over the past 30 or 40 years. He hoped that these artifacts, though deeply cherished by him, could be of more use to others with the university as a medium of imparting academic knowledge. In addition to public display, he hoped the artifacts could benefit people interested in studying Taiwan's modern economic development, as well as NCYU teachers and students for educational or research purposes.

　　In his remarks, NCYU President Chyung Ay expressed his gratitude to Former Vice President Siew for donating his personal collection of cultural and historical artifacts to the university since 2006. The university is graced by the collection of artifacts, now stored at the "Vincent Siew's Museum," which are one and unique in Taiwan. As many people have come to visit the museum in admiration, the artifacts also allow the faculty and students of the university to further explore the economic and trade development in Taiwan. The signing of the contract today, witnessed by the honored guests, served as an important milestone.
