A group photo of President Chyung Ay (in the middle) and first-level supervisors of the university after the unveiling ceremony of the Digital Learning Classroom and Smart Conference Room NCYU Builds a Digital Learning Environment Worth NT$20 Million: A Leap Forward in Digital Transformation
In response to the advent of the cutting-edge technology and the change of teaching mode under the Covid-19 pandemic, Legislator Wang Mei-Huei, a distinguished alumna of National Chiayi University, had been actively seeking a subsidy of NT$20 million from the Ministry of Education for the university. The subsidy aims to enable NCYU to build two interactive exploration classrooms, two high-standard smart conference halls, and 20 digital learning classrooms. On the morning of Jan. 24th. , an unveiling ceremony of the “Digital Learning Classroom and Smart Conference Room” was held at the Auditorium of the Library and Information Building on the Lantan campus. The unveiling ceremony was attended by President Chyung Ay and first-level supervisors of NCYU.

Adopting distance education and physical courses as complementary approaches has become a new normal of education. To create a diverse interactive learning environment, promote the participatory teaching model, and provide students with a better learning environment, NCYU has transformed 20 classrooms on the three campuses of Lantan, Minghsiung and Sinmin into digital learning classrooms. The classrooms are each equipped with an 86-inch LED interactive touch screen, which allows teachers to write on the monitor and project it onto a large screen. It is also equipped with automatic camera tracking for real-time photography. It offers a sense of immediate interaction and participation by allowing students learning remotely to see their classmates from the camera.

The new interactive exploration classrooms at the Multi-Purpose Instruction Building on the Lantan campus and College of Management on the Sinmin campus were installed respectively with seven 86-inch and four 75-inch large LED interactive touch screens in replacement of the traditional blackboards. With the built-in two-way learning system, the students can watch the course presentation at the front of the classroom and engage in discussions by taking full advantage of the interactive touch screens on both sides of the classroom. Students can switch and display multiple screens with a single click, and upload their discussion minutes or notes to the cloud in real time. The changeable classroom, where the desks and chairs can be adjusted according to the teaching plan, makes it easier to carry out discussions and flipped teaching, thus stimulating students’ creativity and motivating them to become knowledge diggers.

With a view to creating a flexible, communication-oriented conference environment, the Auditorium of the Library and Information Building and the International Conference Hall of the International Networking Academy on the Lantan campus are equipped with 206-inch large LED screens and interactive touch screens. The conference halls boast cutting-edge modern conference equipment that makes possible remote interaction and synchronous multi-room conferencing. Through internet connection, any participant can share the screen on their cell phone or computer in real time for accurate communication and recording. The high-standard international conference halls at NCYU allow for more efficient meetings and collaboration.

According to NCYU President Chyung Ay, the hardware and software facilities and classroom environment of an educational institution are highly associated with the students’ willingness to learn. At this critical moment of the pandemic, it is vital to facilitate digital transformation in the field of education. In the future, education no longer takes place only on the blackboard. They hope to enhance NCYU's teaching quality through providing smart digital learning classrooms. He expressed gratitude to Legislator Wang Mei-Huei for her unswerving effort to assist NCYU in seeking the subsidy. It not only help brings out more efficient teaching, but makes learning without gaps possible for all students. The quality of teaching will improve with both the teachers and students enjoying a better learning experience.

Introduction on the installation of digital learning equipment in the classrooms and auditorium of NCYU:

President Chyung Ay delivered remarks. NCYU Dean of Academic Affairs Gu Guo-Long introduced how to use the course recording and interactive device in the digital learning classroom. In the interactive exploration classroom, the traditional blackboard is replaced by a large LED interactive touch screen, whose two-way digital learning system provides a conducive environment for flipped teaching.
